Thanks for your interest in becoming an Umpire!

Steps

Process for becoming becoming an Umpire:

  1. Please review the information found on the Softball BC website
  2. Complete online and in person training at Mini Clinics offered in the Spring
    • Fees are re-imbursed by the association if you are a member

 

Equipment Needed

Once I am certified - what equipment do I need to buy?

  1. Navy or Grey belted trousers
  2. Blue Umpire Shirt
    • you may wear a light blue polo shirt big enough to go over chest protector
  3. Ball Bag, Brush, Counter
    • may be supplied free of charge by association

Other equipment required may be purchased by yourself, or the association may have a limited supply to let you use (sizes vary):

  1. Umpire Mask
  2. Chest Protectors
  3. Leg / Shin Guards

 

Scheduling and Pay

You would indicate your availability at the beginning of the season, or prior to a tournament.

League Games

  • Schedule is issued by Umpire in Chief by the Sunday evening of the week of play
  • Pay is remitted by e-transfer from the Umpire In Chief
  • Home fields are Sunnyside Park, Crescent Park and Peace Arch Elementary

 

Tournament Games & Exhibition Games

  • Schedule is issued just prior to the tournament weekend / exhibition game
  • Paid cash by tournament organizer or team that has organized the exhibition game
